European Ministers of Defence from 26 states meet today for Agency Steering Board

The Defense Minister of Bulgaria, Dragomir Zakov, attended the meeting of the European Defence Agency (EDA) today, May 17, 2022. The official gathering of ministers is chaired by the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President – Josep Borrell Fontelles.  

During the meet, discussions will be held on – the EDA Defence Capabilities Gap analysis, Additional support to Ukraine under the EPF, the Situation in Ukraine and Situation in Mali. A total of 26 European member states partook in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the European Defence Agency providing information on the meeting, tweeted, “The EU has a hub for defence innovation. EU defence Ministers today approved the establishment of HEDI – Hub for EU Defence Innovation – within the EDA. Josep Borrell on HEDI marking the first deliverable of the EU #StrategicCompass”. 

Borell stated, “Less than two months after the adoption of the EU’s Strategic Compass, we deliver on one of the Compass’ main priorities by establishing the EDA’s Defence Innovation Hub. The Hub will assist our Armed forces to be better prepared for future battlefields”. 

What is EDA? 

EDA is a unique hub that supports 26 European nations in defence cooperation. The agency works by and for the member states of the European Union in order to improve EU defence capabilities through collaborative projects.
