Prime Minister of Bulgaria – Kiril Petkov met with Ukraine’s President – Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, during his ongoing visit to Kyiv, which he commenced on April 28, 2022.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister expressed his delight over meeting Zelenskyy and tweeted, “Very glad to meet again with President Zelensky in Kyiv and to reconfirm Bulgaria’s strong support to Ukraine’s European future. Our joint strategy on energy and logistics of Ukraine wheat through the port of Varna will be explored immediately”.
He further expresses and re-affirmed the support of Bulgaria to the war-hit nation.
Prime Minister Petkov stated, “Bulgaria stands firmly by Ukraine and will: – facilitate the export of Ukraine electricity into Bulgaria and the Balkans; use Trans – Balkan pipeline to deliver gas into Ukraine; participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine – repair of heavy machinery in Bulgarian factories”.
Following the above statement, he then commended the leadership shown by Zelenskyy during the Russian invasion while showing his trust that Ukraine would win this war.
“Ukraine will win this war. President Zelenskyy, thank you for the leadership you have shown – for Ukraine and for the free world. I am also thankful for your willingness to help the Bulgarian sailors and ship to return home”.
Prime Minister’s visit also witnessed a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart and other significant dignitaries. Besides this, he also met with the Bulgarian community residing in Ukraine.
“Yesterday, I met with the Bulgarian community in Ukraine. I thanked them for defending their homeland and for being an important bridge between Bulgaria and Ukraine society in these times of disinformation and political speculation”.
On the other hand, Ukrainian Ministers have expressed gratitude and thanked the Bulgarian administration for providing constant support to the war-hit country.
The Chief of United Nations – Antonio Guterres, also paid a visit to Ukraine this week. The UN Chief underscored, “We will continue our work to expand humanitarian support & secure the evacuation of civilians from conflict zones. The sooner this war ends, the better – for the sake of Ukraine, Russia, and the world”.
