Sofia, Bulgaria: The government of Bulgaria plans to spend 1.0 billion levs ($580.1 million/511.3 million euro) to purchase additional trains under its Recovery and Resilience Plan. It is being expected that this plan will get approved by the European Commission next month.  

Also, for the first time in history, the European country will be witnessing the arrival of double-decker trains. As per the local media reporting, the government will be buying a total of 7 double-decker trains, which are most likely to travel in the capital city of Bulgaria – Sofia. 

The above-mentioned information was provided by the Deputy Transport minister – Iliya Iliev, during a speech on public radio on Sunday. The first train’s delivery is expected to take place in 2025. 

The Deputy Transport Minister further stated, “In total, 35 single-decker trains, to be used predominantly in the regions of Varna, Burgas and Veliko Turnovo, will be purchased as well as 20 intercity trains“.   

Across the globe, the Train manufacturers will be participating in public procurement tenders for the supply of new trains, which are yet to be launched. 

The government noted it is trying its best to raise the standard of living of its citizens. 

At present times, there are three types of trains running in the European country, of which the main is the Expresse (ekspresen) trains. These are the fastest as well as most comfortable trains. 

The primary train station of Bulgaria is in its capital city. The metro connects Sofia’s train station with the airport and also with the city centre.
