Sofia, Bulgaria: Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning – Faisal Al-Ibrahim, on Friday, April 1, 2022, arrived in Bulgaria and was warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister of the host country – Kiril Petkov. Both the leaders held significant discussions in terms of the bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and Bulgaria. 

Among the topics of discussion involved – were energy diversification, agriculture, defense, investment, and innovation.

Prime Minister Petkov took social media account to express his contentment and tweeted, “I am pleased to welcome @falibrahim and discuss the development of our bilateral relations in areas of strategic importance such as energy diversification, agriculture, defense, investment, and innovation.”

"For Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia is an important partner in the Middle East.

Besides this, the Saudi minister also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria – Teodora Genchovska, during which the scenario of diplomatic relations between the European and Middle East country was highlighted, and multiple facets of joint cooperation were also discussed. 

In addition, Prime Minister Petkov yesterday (April 1, 2022) paid a visit to the AUBG campus and met with the students. The leader held discussions on several important matters such as – innovation and startup programs and ideas.  

Bulgaria has quite good relations with Saudi Arabia, and diplomatic ties between the two were established on March 20 in the year 1995. 

American University in Bulgaria, via its social media handle, tweeted, “Bulgarian Prime Minister @KirilPetkov visited the AUBG campus today and met with AUBG students. Among the topics discussed were the opportunities for the development of Bulgaria, innovations, and the startup culture among young people.” 

While PM Petkov tweeted via his Twitter handle, “I am glad that we were together and discussed the initiatives of the students to create companies with high added value and to contribute to the development of #България.”
