SOFIA, Bulgaria – June 18, 2025 — Budget carrier Wizz Air has announced the launch of a new direct flight connection between Sofia and Krakow, Poland, expanding its footprint in Central Europe.
The new route, which commenced operations on June 16, will operate three times per week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—with ticket prices starting at BGN 50.99.
The move strengthens Wizz Air’s commitment to enhancing affordable travel options for Bulgarian passengers, offering increased connectivity to one of Europe’s most culturally rich and historically significant cities.
Tickets for the Sofia-Krakow route are now available on the airline’s website and through its mobile application.
Krakow, located in southern Poland along the Vistula River, is one of Europe’s oldest cities and a major tourist destination renowned for its medieval architecture, cobbled streets, and vibrant arts scene.
Highlights include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town, the historic Wawel Castle, and the Jewish Quarter of Kazimierz. Tourists can also enjoy the city’s numerous museums, theaters, and galleries, as well as its thriving café culture and lively public squares.
“We are delighted to add Krakow to our network from Sofia,” said Anastasia Novak, Wizz Air’s Corporate Sustainability and Communications Manager. “It’s a city that combines rich history and culture with a dynamic, modern vibe, offering something for every traveler.”
The airline’s expansion comes amid increasing demand for low-cost travel options within Europe, particularly from travelers looking to explore lesser-known but culturally significant destinations.
Krakow’s reputation as a hub for art, history, and education makes it a compelling choice for both leisure and business travelers departing from Bulgaria. Wizz Air has steadily grown its operations in Bulgaria since launching its inaugural flight from Sofia to Budapest in 2005.
Over the past two decades, the airline has carried nearly 30 million passengers to and from the country, positioning itself as one of the leading low-cost carriers in the region.
Industry analysts note that the addition of the Sofia-Krakow route signals Wizz Air’s broader strategy to enhance regional connectivity and cater to niche travel corridors that are underserved by traditional carriers.
“This is a positive step that opens up more affordable travel opportunities between Bulgaria and Poland, fostering both tourism and economic exchange,” said travel consultant Mariya Dobreva.
Travelers can expect flight durations of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, with services operated by Wizz Air’s modern Airbus A320 family aircraft. As always, passengers are encouraged to book early to secure the lowest fares, especially during the peak summer travel season.
With the new Sofia-Krakow route now in operation, Wizz Air continues to position itself as a major player in Europe’s competitive low-cost airline market, offering expanded choices for Bulgarian travelers seeking accessible and exciting destinations across the continent.
