Burgas, Bulgaria – Authorities in Burgas have detained a man and a woman in separate incidents for driving under the influence of narcotics. Both drivers tested positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines, leading to their arrests and vehicle seizures.
Man Arrested with Drugs in Vehicle
The first incident occurred on February 1, at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Kapitan Petko Voyvoda Street, near house number 25. Officers from the Fourth Regional Department – Burgas stopped a Volkswagen Golf with local registration.
The vehicle was being driven by a 29-year-old man from the Dolno Ezerovo district. Routine tests for alcohol and narcotics were conducted, with the latter returning positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
As a result, the driver was detained for up to 24 hours, and the Volkswagen Golf was seized as evidence.
During a subsequent inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered an envelope in the trunk containing a white crystalline substance, weighing approximately four grams. Authorities are conducting further tests to determine the exact composition of the substance.
The vehicle was carrying three additional passengers aged between 35 and 44. During a personal search, a 42-year-old man—who is known to law enforcement for previous offenses—was found in possession of a small ball of dry green plant material.
The substance, suspected to be marijuana, weighed approximately 0.3 grams. He was also detained for 24 hours as part of the investigation.
A rapid investigation into the case is ongoing, with police working to determine the full extent of the driver’s drug use and the source of the confiscated substances.
Female Driver Detained in Zornitsa Complex
A similar case unfolded the previous day, on January 31, at approximately 9:45 a.m. Officers from the Fifth Regional Department – Burgas were conducting routine patrols near block 2 in the Zornitsa complex when they stopped a Dacia Sandero with Burgas registration.
The car was driven by a 27-year-old local woman, who was subsequently tested for drug use. The test returned positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Upon being informed of the test results, the woman refused to provide blood and urine samples for further chemical analysis. Authorities detained her for up to 24 hours, and her vehicle was confiscated as part of the investigation.
An expedited inquiry has been launched into the case to determine whether the driver had a history of drug-related offenses or if she had been involved in prior similar incidents.
Authorities Urge Caution and Stricter Measures
Both arrests highlight the growing concerns over drug-impaired driving in Burgas. Law enforcement officials continue to stress the dangers of operating vehicles under the influence of narcotics, warning that such actions pose serious risks to both drivers and pedestrians.
The cases remain under active investigation, with authorities expected to file charges based on the findings of ongoing forensic examinations.
Local police have urged residents to report any suspicious behavior related to drug use and driving, emphasizing the need for community cooperation to enhance road safety.
