Once completed, the Goodwill secondary school will house numerous departments such as Vocational Education, Technical Studies, Music, Arts, Food Preparation, Electrical Installations, and many more educational programs.

The government intends to provide every facility for kids at the new school, including refrigeration, air conditioning, counseling services, a library, scientific labs, an auditorium, a canteen, a sports field, and many more.

The government’s Goodwill Secondary School plan aims to reconstruct six schools around the country, including one secondary and five primaries. This development is part of the government’s attempts to rebuild stronger and more resilient in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Previously, the government initiated the establishment of another school in March named Thibaud Primary School and its groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 6, 2024.

Notably, these projects are part of a joint effort between the Republic of China and Dominica. The China-funded project seeks to establish the most modern educational institutions in Dominica and the Caribbean area.

Hurricane Maria caused significant infrastructure damage, prompting the project’s announcement. The devastating hurricane of 2017 destroyed schools, colleges, hospitals, and houses, leaving many homeless.

Following that, Dominican officials set the goal of becoming the world’s first climate-resilient nation, which required the creation of a resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding any natural disaster.

Aside from schools, the government is working on an initiative to create climate-resilient dwellings around the country. With several keys provided to these homes, many are still under development.

The government’s actions are an important step toward building the nation and ensuring its ongoing safety and security. As the government works toward its objective of being a climate-resilient nation, these activities stand out as an effective disaster prevention strategy.
