Castries, Saint Lucia: The Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, as well as the member of parliament serving for the Castries south, Ernest Hilaire, lauded the Saint Lucia Drag Racing Team in their first drag racing event in Antigua.

The racing event was held on November 25-26, 2023, by the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports in collaboration with Invest Saint Lucia, the Ministry of Tourism and the Saint Lucia Motor Sports Association.

Minister Hilaire extended his best wishes to the driver, who did exceptionally well considering his performance in an event of this magnitude.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports expressed their happiness and congratulated the entire team on their outstanding performance.

Lyndon Arnold, Chairman of Invest Saint Lucia, stated that apart from the drivers, the event offered multiple opportunities for other services from mechanics and body repairmen with the support of the Motor Sports venture, which is an untapped market.

Notably, Bradley Philip received special recognition as a driver of the Honda Civic. The preparations of the driver and cars had already started in September.

It is to be noted that Mary Wilfred, who is serving as an acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sport, extended its institutional support to the nation’s Motor Sports Association and assisted other non-traditional sports.

This racing event would have a huge global impact on the motorsports sector. Additionally, it offered a great chance for the people of Saint Lucia to get involved in diversifying their tourism products.

A spokesperson for the group stated that they would like to acknowledge the input from all participants and supporters who came out to participate in this initiative and that the enthusiasm can be channelled to develop the sport even further.
