Philip J. Pierre, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, remarked that the Cabinet had made a decision to extend Saint Lucian citizenship to the children of second-generation Saint Lucians in the Diaspora so they, too, can have a stake in the country’s development.

He made this announcement while addressing the Saint Lucian diaspora at the Saint Lucia High Commission building in London, UK. During the meeting, he engaged with the Saint Lucians living in London, mentioning that the Diaspora represents Saint Lucia’s surest market presence in the global village.

He said, “You are our best ambassadors, and I look forward to us remaining engaged and exploring opportunities that will benefit our beloved country”. He shared glimpses of meeting with the Saint Lucian diaspora on his official Facebook account.

PM J. Pierre expressed that Saint Lucians living in the Diaspora play an active role in the country’s development through remittances, charities, investment, and knowledge and skills-sharing.

He emphasized that the Government of Saint Lucia is working diligently to design a Diaspora Investment Programme, as many of them have expressed a desire to explore gainful investment opportunities at home.

Keeping that in mind, the Cabinet of Saint Lucia had made a decision to extend Saint Lucian citizenship to the children of second-generation Saint Lucians in the Diaspora so they, too, can have a stake in the country’s development.

His decision and approach towards Saint Lucia diaspora were admired by the Saint Lucian diaspora residing overseas. At Saint Lucia High Commission building in Collingham Gardens, London, UK, he received a warm welcome with hundreds of Saint Lucians in attendance.

PM Philip J. Pierre is set to visit Canada for the upcoming Canada-CARICOM Summit, scheduled from Tuesday, October 17 to 19, 2023. Climate Resilience and Sustainable Economies will be the main focus of discussion.
