Saint Lucia among seven venues to host ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

Castries, Saint Lucia: Ernest Hilaire, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, proudly announced that Saint Lucia is named a host venue for the 2024 ICC – International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in June 2024.

The T20 World Cup matches will be played in will bowl off at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Beausejour, Gros-Islet. The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World 2024 will be played in seven different venues from June 4 to 30, and Saint Lucia is also included in it.

It’s a big event for the country as Saint Lucia is set to host the World Cup matches. The other six Caribbean venues are Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Guyana, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and three venues in the USA – Dallas, Florida and New York.

Deputy PM Ernest Hilaire expressed his joy through his social media account, sharing the historic news with the local populace. He noted that it’s a proud moment for the country to be chosen as a host venue for Cricket’s biggest competition.

The Daren Sammy Cricket Ground will host 2024 T20 World Cup matches. Previously known as Beausejour Cricket Ground, the stadium has seating a capacity of 15,000. The stadium has been used to host various Cricket matches since 2002.

The Daren Sammy Cricket Ground was first known as Beausejour Cricket Ground. It was formally renamed on July 21 2016, to Daren Sammy Cricket Ground to honour the Saint Lucian cricketer Daren Sammy, who captained West Indies in winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 in India and captained West Indies to victory in the 2012 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

He was the second West Indies Captain after Guyenes legend Clive Lloyd to multiple ICC trophies. Under his captaincy, the West Indies won the T20 World Cup two times simultaneously.

The Deran Sammy Stadium will host T20 World Cup matches in June 2024. Deputy PM Hilaire emphasized that it was another significant achievement for Saint Lucia to host T20 World Cup matches.
