PM Terrance Drew encourages farmers to increase agricultural output to reduce food imports

Kingstown, St. Vincent and Grenadines: Terrance Drew, Prime Minister and Minister of Health of St Kitts and Nevis, participated in a special event hosted by Ministry of Agriculture St. Vincent and Grenadines and Taiwan.

He was invited by Saboto Caesar, the agriculture Minister of St. Vincent and Grenadines. PM Drew also addressed the farmers and asserted that it is essential to increase the agricultural output in an effort to decrease the reliance on food importation.

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has described his visit to St. Vincent and the Grenadines as successful and productive so far. During his visit, he met with several officials and proposed various strategies to enhance productivity in the OESC region and strengthen bilateral ties.

The event organized by the Agriculture Ministry of St. Vincent and Taiwan was primarily focused on boosting agricultural output in the OESC region and reducing dependency on other countries.

In his speech, Prime Minister Drew emphasized that boosting crop production will lower the need for imports and have a positive impact on the region. This approach will result in lower food prices for OESC nations and ensure abundant crops throughout the year.

Appreciating the farmers, PM Drew said, “I have a very special place in my heart for farmers. I come from a family who works in the sugar industry; I myself put my hands from time to time because that is something I genuinely love”.

The Prime Minister, Drew, acknowledged the complexity and importance of farming and expressed his gratitude towards the hardworking farmers in the Caribbean. He said, “What you are doing not only impacts St. Vincent and Grenadines, but it impacts the entire Caribbean”.

Minister Drew encouraged farmers to grow more crops to help the Caribbean region grow its economy. While ending his speech, Prime Minister Drew wished good luck to the farmers and wished them success in upcoming future.
