The men’s national “Team Hope” finished sixth at the World Cup for Homeless People in Sacramento, USA. This is the best ranking of the Bulgarian team from its nine participation in the social world cup so far.

The Nationals had a chance to move one position up and take fifth place but lost, unfortunately, 3:4, their final match in the tournament, to the strong Costa Rica lineup. Both teams were tired and affected by California’s record temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius this year.

Both final matches of the Homeless World Cup were between the teams of Mexico and Chile. The Chileans won the men’s trophy, who beat their opponent 5:3. Third stood Brazil’s squad, which defeated Portugal 7:5. In the ladies, Mexico won against Chile 2:0, and the Romanians stood third.

The Hope Team recorded seven wins and five losses during their World Cup participation. The final ranking of the nationals in the race seems fair, given that they were outclassed by 4 of the five teams before them in the ranking – Chile, Mexico, Brazil and Costa Rica.

Their fifth failure was against the host USA in the first group stage of the tournament. At the same time, the Bulgarians defeated the teams of the Republic of Korea, Italy, Pakistan, Indonesia, Hungary, Finland and Lithuania.

The homeless World Cup duels were played at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento. All matches of the tournament can be found on the Homeless World Cup Foundation YouTube channel and on its Facebook profile.
