Roseau, Dominica: Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, paid a visit to Windsor Park Stadium ahead of day 2 of the 1st Test between West Indies and India. He exchanged words with Windies legend and commentator Ian Bishop about the remarkable performance of Dominican youngster Alick Athanaze.

On day 1, Athanaze performed outstandingly against India in his debut match, scoring 47 runs in 99 balls, hitting 6 fours and 1 six. Minister Skerrit compared him with Brain Lara mentioning that he had great potential to play crucial innings in challenging conditions, just like Brian Lara.

Brian Lara is West Indies Cricket legend who still holds unbreakable cricket records in test cricket. He was appointed as a performance mentor to guide West Indies during the series in which two test matches, three ODI’s and four T20 matches will be played in different regions of the Caribbean.

The Dominican-born left-handed batsmen remain the top scorer from the Windies’ side on day 1 of 1st test match. PM Skerrit emphasizes that he is an inspiration to the youth of Dominica who inspires others to indulge themselves in sports activities and work hard to pursue their dreams.

While talking to commentator Ion Bishop, Minister Skerrit mentioned that Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica is one of the top Cricket venues in the world and is capable of hosting world-class sports events. He commented that the Government of Dominica is working to enhance the stadium and upgrade the infrastructure.

In future, more investment plans will be implemented to upgrade the stadium, such as increasing seating capacity, constructing a staircase on the pavilion side, and providing cricketers with an indoor practice facility.
