Roseau, Dominica: Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, appreciates young cricketer Alick Athanaze for his brilliant knock 47 against India during day 1 of the 1st Test match at Windsor Park Stadium.

The 24-year-old Left-handed batsman scored crucial 47 runs in 99 balls while coming to the pitch on number 5. It was his debut match in which he performed astonishingly, acting as the backbone of West Indies.

Minister Skerrit complimented the Dominican youngster by posting an appreciation post on his official Facebook post. He wrote, “Maturity, composure and flair! Alick Athanaze thrills on test debut at Windsor Park, scoring an impressive 47 against India. WI are proud”.

Minister Skerrit highlighted that Athanaze has the potential to perform well in playing under pressure and single-handedly carrying the team during crucial moments.

The Windies did not have a good start on their first day at Windsor Park Stadium, as they only managed to score 150. Athanaze was the top scorer with 47 runs in 99 balls, contributing nearly 33% of the total score. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him in 55th over.

The Indian Pacer Shardul Thakur took the catch of Athanaze. After his dismissal, West Indies were down to 129/8. Kraigg Brathwaite, the Windies captain, was second-top scorer in the game. He scored 20 runs and came to bat at number 1.

West Indies were all out at 150 facing 64.3 overs. From the Indian side, youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma came to bat. In 23 overs, they scored 80 runs.

Jaiswal also made his debut yesterday in test cricket and performed well. He scored 40* in 73 balls (not out). The Indian skipper scored 30 in 65 balls.

After day 1, West Indies were 150/10 in (64.3 overs). India has a strong grip on the game and is expected to surpass the trail comfortably.
