Sofia, Bulgaria: The Ministry of Youth and Sports informed through its social media account that they will have BGN 13.5 million more by the end of the year. The statement was made by Deputy Minister Ivo Katsarov.

The draft Law on the State Budget for 2023 envisages this, which was approved at first reading by the Parliamentary Committee on Children, Family, Youth and Sports today. The department’s budget for this year amounts to BGN 137 million against BGN 123.5 million for 2022.

Funds for all significant programs have been increased, said Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ivo Katsarov, who presented the MMS budget framework to the people’s representatives in the Commission.

The most additional funds are provided for the two budget programs forming the policy in the field of performance sports, with BGN 3 million provided for Olympic preparation and BGN 5.5 million for high-performance sports.

The funds for awards for Olympic medalists and their coaches, for physical education and sports, as well as for the performance of youth activities, have been increased. The draft law also noted that for the six state sports schools in the MMS structure, almost BGN 19 million is envisaged, which is BGN 3.9 million more compared to 2022.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Prof. Daniela Dasheva noted that an approach to more purposeful management of state finances is being considered, focusing on providing enough funds for all sports practitioners, elite athletes and children covered in the education system.
