On June 20, 2023, St Kitts and Nevis football team, nicknamed The Sugar Boyz, qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time by defeating French Juiana on penalties by 4-2.

Pm Drew said, ” I want to congratulate St Kitts and Nevis Football Association President, Mr Atiba Harris, for competing in Gold Cup, the head coach and especially the team. We are immensely proud of all of You”.

Today, the St Kitts and Nevis lost its first Gold Cup group stage match against Trinidad and Tobago by 3-0. The defeat dropped St Kitts and Nevis last in Group A standings with -3 points. The Group consist of Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica and host team USA.

Minister Drew posted a video encouraging the National team of St Kitts and Nevis to make a comeback strongly. He expressed that the entire nation is proud of their national team for the remarkable achievement they acquired. On June 20, 2023, St Kitts and Nevis defeated French Juiana by 4-2 on penalties and sealed their spot in CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time. It was a historic moment in St Kitts and Nevis football history.

Minister Drew commented that the entire nation stands behind the Football team in their overseas adventure. He commented that the competition is tough, but the island populace and the government has complete faith in their players that they will make the country proud in the tournament.

He commented that St Kitts and Nevis Football Federation and the team had the full support of the government and the people in this tournament. PM Drew said, “Give your best shot; we know the competition is tough, and you are in a challenging group. Despite the challenges, we support you 100% because we know you will give your 100% and make us proud.

St Kitts and Nevis will face the USA for their second group stage match on June 29, 2023, in CITY PARK, St. Louis, Missouri. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is taking place in USA and Canada and will continue until July 16, 2023.
