Georgi Valentinov Georgiev, chairman of the Metropolitan Municipal Council, reported that the Municipality of Sofia is implementing another municipal measure to combat domestic violence.
Turn to Animus Foundation and the Ministry of Interior in need of protection; the municipality offers free legal assistance against abusers and another new free protected housing to accommodate injured women and children.
Georgiev noted that Over 100 women working in different municipal societies have participated in the domestic violence prevention trainings.
“Be the Good Hero in Someone’s Story” was the theme of this measure, which the municipality organized with the great ladies dedicated to the cause: Maria Kasimova-Moase, Elena Genova and Daniela Grueva.
Georgiev emphasized that the lecturers trained the colleagues from Metropolitan Autotransport, Heating Sofia and Metropolitan Electrotransport on first aid in domestic violence about how one can help a person affected by domestic violence, who to turn to and what help they can get.
The chairman of the Metropolitan Municipal Council informed that he attended two trainings to express concern as a man and a municipal council representative to the ladies from municipal companies.
He reminded them they were not alone and that Domestic violence is not a personal or family problem for the victims. Even if they do not have such a problem at home, they can tell their relatives and girlfriends about the options for protection and give them courage.
Chairman Georgiev noted that he will not get tired of repeating that no one has the right to touch another human being and must be relentless with violence to save those suffering from this unacceptable phenomenon in the 21st century.
He also told them about the completely free Legal Clinic for Victims – the first in the country for free legal assistance and consultation program. More than 73 women have already received support since August.
Georgiev also presented them with the second municipal protected home, with the Animus Association Foundation injured women with their children – completely free of charge, provided by the city council’s decision an allowance of up to 6 months.
He informed that a few months ago, with Demetra Foundation and Animus Foundation, they signed contracts with municipal hospitals to train physicians who identify signs of violence upon examination – how to encourage and help victims seek protection under programs.
Chairman Georgiev highlighted that from the Animus Association Foundation/Animus Association Foundation, he learned a lot from them the problems, and with most of them, the municipality has already prepared and implemented solutions for the territory of Sofia.
