Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Commonwealth of Dominica, attended the two-day regional symposium yesterday, April 17, 2023, in Port in Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, with the theme “Violence as a Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge.”

According to recent updates, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit gave Dominican citizens a sneak peek of his trip to the regional symposium via his official social media account.

The CARICOM (the Caribbean Community and Common Market) Heads were with him during the meeting. During the summit, all leaders from the various Caribbean nations discussed increased crime and violence and raised awareness about the need for action to minimise it.

PM Skerrit wrote, “I am attending the two-day Regional Symposium on “Violence as a Public Health Issue – The Crime Challenge” in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.”

PM Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his views in a statement that read, “The symposium seeks to promote dialogue and action at the regional level to reduce violence and prevent crime.”

Roosevelt Skerrit, the prime minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, emphasised in his speech that all the participating nations emphasised the importance of working together to curb crime and violence in the Caribbean.

He also represents many features and creative solutions that the government of Dominica is considering to address the urgent concerns regarding crime rates and violence.

Additionally, it was mentioned during the conference that difficulties with crime and violence are linked to public health since they offer insight into the mental state of a person who engages in such illegal activity.

The Prime Minister added that a coordinated effort from all the Caribbean nations within a practical framework could solve the issue.

PM Skerrit was joined at the Regional Symposium by his counterparts from sister Caribbean nations like Saint Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, and other island governments.
