Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit meets Swiss Ambassador to strengthen bilateral ties

Rita Hammerli-Weshke, the Swiss Confederation’s ambassador to the Commonwealth of Dominica, met with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on Friday, April 14, 2023, in Roseau, Dominica.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit shared portions of the meeting on Facebook, where they could talk about several issues of concern linked to strengthening the diplomatic ties between Dominica and Switzerland.

Minister Skerrit further remarked that he also held cordial talks last evening with Rita Hammerli-Weshke, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The meeting included a considerable discussion on the shared problems of the two countries and strategies to strengthen the elements that contribute to the bilateral and multilateral aspects of relations between the two countries.

He added, “We discussed matters of mutual interest and agreed to strengthen the diplomatic ties between both countries.”

Switzerland and Dominica had cordial relations and cooperated on several construction projects. Through friendly discussions, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has steadfastly sought to improve bilateral ties with other nations.

The people of Dominica applauded the government’s efforts. Cynthia Andre, another Facebook user, said, “Continue to have the vision to forge international partner relationships that will benefit our country.”

Didier Trebucq, the UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, were earlier greeted by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. He was accompanied by Marlon Marie, the UN Country Coordination Officer for Dominica; Renata Clarke, the FAO Sub-regional Coordinator; Laura Hildebrandt and the UNDP Head of the Dominica Project Office.

On March 29, 2023, the Dominican Republic’s government and the UN held the Development Partners Meeting. The UN’s development assistance to Dominica was a topic of debate at the summit.

The roundtable discussion is being led by the United Nations Resident Coordinators Office for Barbados & the Eastern Caribbean to enhance the triangular partnership between the Government of Dominica, Development Partners, and the United Nations.
