Roseau: Melissa Poponne Skerrit, Member of the House of Assembly for the Roseau Central constituency, noted that the long-awaited children’s playground in Peebles Park is now officially open.
On April 9, 2023, during the Easter celebration, the inauguration of Peebles Park took place under the supervision of Melissa Skerrit, PM Roosevelt Skerrit and Lin Xianjiang, Chinese ambassador to Dominica.
Through her social media account, Melissa Skerrit appreciated the efforts of The People’s Republic of China for their kind donation of play sets to the government of Dominica.
She wrote, “Thank you for seeing my vision, for collaborating in building a safety wall. Thank you for seeing the vision come to life.” It was the idea of Melissa Skerrit to build a Children’s fun park with numerous rides and top-notch safety.
The Member of the House of Assembly also mentioned that she wanted to create a safe space for the children to socialize and a healthy and fun environment for them to learn and play.
“This is just the first of similar fun, interactive and educational children’s spaces! My vision extends islandwide with additional playgrounds and public pools,” said Melissa through her official Facebook page.
She emphasized that the government of Dominica are in the process of erecting a permanent public restroom, and better lighting is also coming. This will allow the park to be safely open for longer play time for the little ones. The park is under 24 hr security watch as safety is a top priority.
Melissa highlighted the Easter Celebration and commented that Easter Sunday’s successful easter egg hunt and Grand Opening were fantastic. She thanked the Labour Youth Organization and all the other organizers for managing the event successfully and safely.
Lin Xinjiang, the Chinese ambassador to Dominica, claimed that all the fun equipment installed in Peebles Park is built with high-quality materials in China and special attention is given to safety measures.
During the opening ceremony, the Chinese ambassador to Dominica remarked that when he visited the island country last year, the PM’s wife, Melissa Skerrit, proposed building a children’s park in Roseau, Dominica. Now it’s completed and opened for every child of Dominica.
