Sofia, Bulgaria: Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Kiril Petkov, met with the Federal Minister for the EU and Constitution at the Federal Chancellery of Austria since 2020, Karoline Edtstadler, on Friday, February 4, 2022. PM Petkov discussed the rule of law within the European Union and as well as the anti-corruption government programme of Bulgaria.
Despite this, several significant matters of interest were also discussed by both the officials.
Bulgarian prime minister asserted, “Very glad to meet @k_edtstadler, ( Karoline Edtstadler) Federal Minister for the EU and Constitution. We discussed the rule of law within the EU and Bulgaria’s anti-corruption government program. I am looking forward to our future close collaboration.”

Apart from this, PM Petkov also held a telephonic conversation with the Prime Minister of Romania, Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, yesterday (February 4, 2022). Both of the counterparts discussed several ways to enhance the bilateral ties while talking closely on the valuable matters of the European Union.
PM Petkov tweeted, citing, “I spoke with Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă @NicolaeCiuca. We agreed to enhance the infrastructure and connectivity between our countries and to cooperate closely on #EU issues.”

The bilateral relationship between Bulgaria and Romania:
Both of the countries share long-withstanding diplomatic ties, sharing about 608 km of common borders. Bulgaria has an embassy in Bucharest (which is considered as the centre of the Romanian economy and industry), while Romania has an embassy in Sofia and three honorary consulates (in Burgas, Silistra and Vidin).
Bulgaria and Romania became part of the – European Union in the year 2007. In the initial years, both of the nations had some conflict over the Dobruja region, and the Treaty of Craiova put an end to the territorial disputes between them.
Although, the Romanian-Bulgarian relations are developing “very intensively” because of EU accession and efforts of the government authorities of both countries.
