World Health Organisation – WHO today on “World Hand Hygiene Day” emphasizes the significance of washing hands in a correct manner. The day is observed on May 5.

The international health agency asserted, “Effective infection prevention and control measures – including Hand Hygiene – can prevent up to 70% of healthcare-acquired infections. When healthcare workers unite for safety and promote hand hygiene, they protect patients and save lives”.

“Cleaning your hands is one of the most effective measures in reducing the spread of germs and avoiding infections”, WHO further tweeted.

Both patients and the health workers can ensure their safety by following hand hygiene and infection prevention and control (IPC), the international health agency cited, adding that the world population needs to understand the significance of washing hands.

The official website of WHO cited, “This year’s theme for World Hand Hygiene Day, May 5 2022, is focused on recognizing that we can add to a facility’s climate or culture of safety & quality via cleaning our hands but also that a strong quality & safety culture would encourage people to clean hands at the right times and with the right products”.

WHO, each year, begins its SAVE LIVES: Clean your hands’ campaign at a global level, which aims to outline the importance of washing hands or hand hygiene in health care.

“The campaign aims to galvanize action at the point of care to demonstrate that hand hygiene is the entrance door for reducing health care-associated infection and patient safety. It also aims to demonstrate the world’s commitment to this priority area of health care”, WHO further adds.
