Sofia will keep its public transport network running throughout the night on New Year’s Eve, ensuring residents and visitors can travel safely during celebrations across the capital. Authorities say the measure aims to reduce private car use and improve road safety.
From 23:30 on December 31, 2025, until 04:30 on January 1, 2026, metro services will operate on all main lines. Trains on metro lines 1, 2 and 4 will run at intervals ranging between 17 and 34 minutes.
Metro line 3 will also remain in service during the night, with trains operating every 20 minutes. Transport officials say the metro will be the backbone of overnight mobility, linking key districts and celebration areas.
Several bus routes will also run during the night hours, providing coverage beyond metro corridors. Bus line 72 will operate every 50 minutes, while line 73 will run every 75 minutes.
Bus line 83 will operate at 65-minute intervals, and line 85 will run every 70 minutes. These services are designed to connect residential areas with central parts of the city during the festive night.
Trolleybus services will also remain available, with coordinated schedules to ensure regular connections. Trolleybus lines 1 and 2 will run in sync every 50 minutes, maintaining consistent service across major routes.
Line 7 trolleybuses will operate every 50 minutes, while line 9 will run every 70 minutes. Transport officials noted that coordination between lines aims to reduce waiting times overnight.
Tram services will provide additional coverage, with several lines operating in paired schedules. Tram line 5 will run in coordination with line 11 every 30 minutes, while line 7 will operate alongside line 27 every 40 minutes.
Tram lines 10 and 18 will operate together every 60 minutes, while lines 20 and 22 will run in coordination every 50 minutes. Authorities say trams remain vital for inner-city connections during the night.
On January 1, 2026, public transport will switch to holiday schedules until 15:30. A wide range of bus routes will remain operational, including lines 1, 11, 54, 56, 60, 61 and several others.
Trolleybuses will operate on lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 11, while trams will be available on most major routes. However, trams on lines 1 and 23 and trolleybuses on lines 3 and 8 will not operate.
City officials say the arrangements balance essential mobility needs with reduced holiday demand, encouraging residents to celebrate responsibly while ensuring safe travel options remain available.
