On April 12, train enthusiasts and holiday revelers alike will have the rare opportunity to experience Bulgaria’s railway heritage in a truly unique way, as Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) partners with the National Ethnographic Museum of BAS to offer a nostalgic trip aboard the oldest restored steam locomotive in the country.

The steam-powered locomotive, dating back to 1908, will lead the trip between Sofia and Bankya, providing passengers with a scenic view of the Bulgarian countryside while taking a step back into the past.

The 26.26 steam engine, a symbol of Bulgarian railway heritage, will pull a set of three beautifully decorated passenger cars, ensuring a nostalgic and festive experience for all aboard.

The special train will make two round trips, offering passengers the flexibility to choose from two different departures. The first journey will depart from Sofia at 09:00, with an arrival in Bankya at 09:42.

The return trip will leave Bankya at 11:10, reaching Sofia by 11:51. The second trip will leave Sofia at 13:50, arriving in Bankya at 14:32, with a return departure at 16:00, reaching Sofia at 16:51.

In addition to the allure of traveling on a historic train, the event will also offer passengers a chance to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere of Lazarovden.
