While southwestern Bulgaria will experience slightly warmer conditions, the cold weather will persist across most of the country.

The front is accompanied by a weak to moderate east-northeast wind, bringing a mix of clear and cloudy skies.

By Sunday night, much of Bulgaria saw clearing skies, though the western regions remained under significant cloud cover, with isolated snow showers reported in some areas.

Freezing Start to the Week

Monday morning brought not only sub-zero temperatures but also foggy conditions, particularly affecting the plains and valleys. This reduced visibility in certain areas, prompting authorities to urge caution for both pedestrians and motorists.

By midday, sunny weather was observed across most of the country, though the west remained under heavy clouds. A moderate to weak south-southwest wind prevailed, particularly in eastern Bulgaria.

In the mountainous regions, the weather remained largely sunny, though heavy cloud cover dominated the massifs of Southwestern Bulgaria and the Western Stara Planina range.

Some areas experienced snowfall, accompanied by moderate to strong northwesterly winds at higher elevations. Despite the ongoing freeze, meteorologists predict a gradual temperature rise in the coming days.

Weather Outlook for the Week

According to forecasts, Tuesday could bring light rain to Southwestern Bulgaria, while snowfall remains likely in the mountains. By Wednesday morning, fog is expected to develop in the lowlands and valleys, posing potential hazards for early commuters.

The latter half of the week will see increased cloudiness, with mostly overcast skies anticipated on Thursday and Friday. Light rain is more likely to occur on Friday as temperatures continue their gradual ascent.

Despite the improving trend, sub-zero temperatures will persist in many regions, especially in the early mornings and overnight.

Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions against the freezing conditions, particularly in areas under the yellow code warning.

Motorists are urged to drive carefully due to fog and potential icy patches on roads, while those in higher elevations should prepare for wind-driven snowfall.

As Bulgaria navigates this winter cold spell, meteorologists continue to monitor temperature shifts and precipitation patterns, urging the public to stay updated with weather advisories.
