At approximately 2:10 a.m. this morning, officers from the Nessebar District Administration made a significant arrest after stopping a Mercedes C 180 passenger car in the “Kamelia” neighborhood of Nessebar, Bulgaria.
The vehicle, which was driving erratically along the traffic lane, had a Ukrainian registration. Upon stopping the car, authorities discovered that the driver was a 45-year-old Ukrainian citizen who had been residing in Sunny Beach under temporary protection.
Further investigations revealed that the driver had consumed a significant amount of alcohol, registering 1.75 per mille on the breathalyzer test, well above the legal limit for drivers in Bulgaria.
The driver’s refusal to provide biological samples for medical analysis raised concerns, as it hindered a more accurate assessment of his condition.
As a result, the authorities detained him for up to 24 hours for further questioning. Additionally, the car was impounded by the police, and a report was filed for the incident.
In response to the situation, an expedited investigation has already been launched, with authorities seeking to gather more information on the circumstances surrounding the driver’s actions.
The case will proceed according to Bulgarian law, and further legal steps will be taken depending on the investigation’s findings. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense in Bulgaria, as it poses a significant threat to public safety.
The country’s authorities have been cracking down on drunk driving, especially during the busy tourist season, as the influx of visitors from abroad often leads to an increase in traffic violations.
This incident has sparked conversations about road safety in tourist-heavy areas such as Nessebar and Sunny Beach, where a large number of foreign nationals, including Ukrainians, reside temporarily or visit.
Local authorities continue to prioritize public safety and enforce traffic regulations strictly to avoid accidents and injuries on the roads.
The arrested driver now faces potential legal consequences, including fines, a driving ban, and other penalties depending on the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of responsible driving and the severe repercussions of driving under the influence.
As the investigation unfolds, local residents and visitors are reminded of the importance of adhering to traffic laws, particularly during peak tourist periods, to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
The case also highlights the need for tourists to familiarize themselves with local laws and regulations to avoid any legal troubles during their stay in Bulgaria.
