SOFIA, Bulgaria – National carrier Bulgaria Air has announced the resumption of direct flights on its domestic route between Sofia and Burgas during the cold months, providing a quick and convenient connection between the Bulgarian capital and the Black Sea coast. The flights will begin on December 1 and will run until the end of the winter season in March 2025.
The service will operate three times weekly—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays—offering passengers a time-efficient alternative to road and rail travel. Each flight will take under an hour, catering to both business and leisure travelers.
Flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays are scheduled for the afternoon, enabling passengers arriving in Sofia to connect seamlessly with international flights from Paris, Amsterdam, and Rome. Outbound travelers can also take advantage of evening departures to Brussels, ensuring smooth international transfers.
On Sundays, the schedule is tailored to meet weekend travel needs, with the flight to Burgas departing in the evening. The return flight from Burgas to Sofia is strategically timed to align with arrivals from major European cities, including Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Zurich, Frankfurt, London, and Berlin.
Affordable Travel Options
Bulgaria Air has set competitive pricing for the route, with one-way tickets in economy class starting at just €56. The fare includes generous allowances such as hand luggage up to 10 kilograms, a personal handbag or laptop bag, complimentary check-in services, and onboard catering.
By offering cost-effective options, the airline aims to attract a diverse range of travelers, including those planning business trips, weekend getaways, or transfers to its international flight network.
Strategic Connectivity
The winter flight schedule reflects Bulgaria Air’s strategy to enhance domestic connectivity while leveraging its international network. The route allows passengers to easily combine their domestic travel with flights to key European destinations, increasing Sofia’s role as a transit hub.
“By reintroducing flights between Sofia and Burgas during the winter season, we are responding to our customers’ needs for a fast, comfortable, and affordable travel option between the two cities,” a Bulgaria Air spokesperson stated.
The decision also supports Burgas’s role as a year-round destination, even during the colder months. While the city is known for its summer tourism, the winter service is expected to facilitate business trips, family visits, and cultural tourism.
Convenience in Cold Months
The introduction of the Sofia-Burgas route during winter underscores the airline’s commitment to addressing the challenges of seasonal travel. The shorter travel time by air offers a significant advantage over the several-hour drive or train journey, especially during colder weather when road conditions can be unpredictable.
With its competitive fares, convenient schedule, and strategic international connections, Bulgaria Air’s winter service between Sofia and Burgas is set to become a popular choice for domestic and international travelers alike.
The new route represents a step forward in strengthening Bulgaria’s domestic air connectivity while supporting the broader goals of tourism and economic development.
