Podgorica, Montenegro – Two Bulgarian nationals were arrested in Montenegro on Tuesday, accused of attempting to murder a man during a violent altercation. The incident took place in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica, where the suspects reportedly tried to flee the country shortly after the assault.
According to local authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. when Montenegrin police received a report of a physical altercation involving several individuals. The altercation led to one man sustaining significant injuries, including multiple fractures. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed the severity of his injuries.
Authorities revealed that the attack involved two masked assailants who used metal levers to strike the victim. The blows, which were aimed at the man’s head and body, caused extensive damage. The High State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has since classified the crime as an attempted murder, and the investigation is ongoing.
Thanks to a swift response by the Montenegrin police, the suspects – identified as 42-year-old I.I.E. and 43-year-old D.Y.E., both Bulgarian nationals – were quickly tracked down. It was revealed that the two men attempted to leave Montenegro later that day, trying to cross the Kula border checkpoint. However, they were intercepted before they could depart the country.
The authorities arrested the two men on suspicion of attempted murder, and they were taken into custody while further investigations into the attack continue. Police sources confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and they have not ruled out additional charges as the case develops.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, but investigators are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the identities of any other individuals involved. Given the severity of the assault, the authorities are taking the case very seriously, with local prosecutors leading the inquiry.
This incident has raised concerns about the rising number of violent crimes in the region, especially involving foreign nationals. Authorities have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring justice and are working diligently to bring the perpetrators to account.
As of now, the suspects are expected to face court hearings in the coming days, where they will be formally charged. Meanwhile, the victim remains in hospital, recovering from the injuries sustained in the brutal attack.
The arrest of the two Bulgarian citizens is a reminder of the importance of quick police action in preventing suspects from fleeing the country and ensuring they are brought to justice.
