Nearly 100 students from Burgas gathered for an ambitious two-day educational camp, “AI for Environmental Sustainability,” where they developed eco-projects using artificial intelligence.

The event, organized by the Association “Center for Creative Education” and backed by the Vivacom Regional Grant, brought together 13-to-18-year-olds eager to address environmental challenges through cutting-edge technology.

Divided into 16 teams representing various schools across the region, the students embarked on a mission to create sustainable solutions to pressing ecological issues.

The camp offered an immersive learning experience, combining interactive lectures, hands-on workshops, and group assignments through the Innovation Skills and AI for Youth programs.

These activities equipped the students with essential knowledge on artificial intelligence applications, which they then used to craft their own eco-innovations.

Among the array of projects, students developed solutions that ranged from an automatic smart watering system to seawater purification via solar-powered stills.

Other projects tackled diverse environmental issues such as waste management, deforestation, pollution, and sustainable food access.

These real-world applications of AI were designed not only to highlight the importance of environmental conservation but also to empower students with the tools to address these challenges creatively.

Reni Dimova from the Association “Center for Creative Education” expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative.

“With this camp, we wanted to inspire young people to see how science and technology, especially artificial intelligence, can be a powerful tool to tackle environmental challenges.”

“We believe that the students expanded their knowledge, but also felt the power of teamwork and creative thinking in the search for sustainable solutions,” Dimova stated, thanking Vivacom Regional Grant for the opportunity to make the project a reality.

The Vivacom Regional Grant, Bulgaria’s largest corporate social responsibility initiative by the telecom company, supports educational and environmental projects across the country.

The program’s ninth edition, in which the Association “Center for Creative Education” is a finalist, has doubled its funding size and revamped its application process. This year, an accelerator program was also introduced to better assist civil organizations.

Vivacom has a history of commitment to social causes, having supported 118 projects from 105 organizations to date, with a total grant distribution exceeding BGN 600,000.

Implemented in collaboration with the Bulgarian Center for Non-Profit Law, the Vivacom Regional Grant has gained a reputation for supporting impactful community projects.

By enabling young minds to engage with AI-driven solutions, the recent camp in Burgas exemplifies Vivacom’s dedication to fostering educational growth and environmental awareness through innovative approaches.

As these students return to their classrooms, they carry with them newfound skills and confidence in their ability to create change, signaling a promising step toward a more sustainable future shaped by technology and creativity.
