With the start of the school year, the Traffic Police in Burgas have issued important recommendations for drivers to ensure the safety of children on the roads.

Chief Inspector Plamen Nikolov, head of the “Traffic Police” sector at the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior (ODMVR-Burgas), has called on motorists to exercise increased caution, particularly near schools, where children are most at risk.

Chief Inspector Nikolov emphasized the need for drivers to slow down when approaching school zones, highlighting the unpredictable nature of children’s movements.

“Children usually move in groups, and when they talk to each other, they do not notice that they have stepped off the sidewalk. Drivers must always be ready to stop because children often change their movements suddenly and forget the rules of road safety,” he said.

He further urged drivers to always give priority to children crossing at pedestrian paths to prevent accidents. The recommendations come as part of a broader effort to minimize traffic-related incidents involving children.

Authorities are especially focused on school areas, where young students often have limited awareness of traffic dangers, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

Traffic police officers will be monitoring high-risk areas more closely, and drivers are advised to adhere to speed limits and road safety rules to prevent tragic consequences.

Recent Traffic Report in Burgas

In addition to issuing safety advice, Chief Inspector Nikolov provided a report on recent traffic accidents in the Burgas region.

Over the past week, seven accidents resulting in casualties were recorded, five of which occurred in populated areas.

These incidents resulted in one fatality and seven injuries, underscoring the importance of heightened road safety measures, especially in urban settings.

The report further detailed that a total of 437 acts were completed by traffic authorities in the same period, along with 2,312 issued slips.

These figures reflect ongoing efforts by the Traffic Police to enforce road safety regulations and penalize violations.

However, despite these efforts, the number of accidents continues to be a concern, necessitating additional preventive measures and driver awareness campaigns.

Calls for Community Involvement

In light of the recent accidents and the start of the school year, authorities are also calling on parents and teachers to play a proactive role in educating children about road safety.

Chief Inspector Nikolov encouraged parents to remind their children of the rules for crossing streets and walking along sidewalks, particularly during busy traffic hours.

Schools in the Burgas region will also receive materials and support to educate students about traffic safety.

Increased Police Presence Near Schools

To further safeguard students, the Traffic Police will be deploying more officers near schools during peak times. The increased police presence aims to deter reckless driving and provide immediate assistance if needed.

Random checks will also be conducted to ensure that drivers comply with speed limits and give the right of way to pedestrians, especially near educational institutions.

As the academic year gets underway, the Burgas Traffic Police continue to stress the importance of shared responsibility in preventing accidents.

While authorities are doing their part to monitor and enforce traffic regulations, the role of drivers, parents, and educators remains crucial.

Chief Inspector Nikolov’s message to the community is clear: vigilance and respect for road safety rules can significantly reduce risks and save lives.
