Sofia, Bulgaria: Georgi Valentinov Georgiev, Chairman of the Metropolitan Council, announced that 130 playgrounds are already renovated in Sofia. At the beginning of the year, the Sofia Municipality prepared an investment program of 3,000,000 BGN to repair and maintain sites in all areas of the capital.
According to the decision of the Municipal Council, from 100,000 to 135,000 BGN are distributed directly to the district mayors for the repair and maintenance of playgrounds in interblock spaces, with funds allocated for both the construction and renovation of existing playgrounds – depending on their state in the respective area the quarter.
Georgiev remarked that he prioritizes working on renovating the oldest facilities; the other criterion is to focus on neighbourhoods where young families with young children mainly populate. The metropolitan municipality provides financing for these 130 sites equally to all districts, for which Yordanka Fandakova, the mayor of Sofia.
He also thanked Deputy Mayor of Ecology – Desislava Bileva, for doing her job consciously. The City Council has approved the list of proposed playgrounds, and district mayors are already working on their renovation.
Georgiev said, “Among them, an excellent man is the mayor of Ilinden Ivan Bozhilov, who has already completed the reconstruction of two large Holy Trinity sites – to be. 357 and up to block 319 in the block. I announce the competition between district mayors for the implementation of our outdoor program”.
He stated that the promised is already being fulfilled and the residents are seeing the first results. The municipality will continue the work to renovate playgrounds because Sofia’s children deserve to play in a clean and safe environment.
