More than 300 of the world’s best in artistic gymnastics will compete for eight world titles at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from July 7-9.
The second of its kind, after the inaugural event in 2019. , The Girls World Championship provides the future “stars” of the sport a platform to demonstrate their potential and leave with distinction.
Four new world champions will be crowned in the individual disciplines – hoop, ball, bat and tape, while the 5-member ensembles will compete for gold medals in all-around and individual apparatuses – five ropes and five balls. A team title will also be determined based on the individual and ensemble results.
The competition will be held at the famous BTArena in Cluj-Napoca, the largest indoor gym in the country known for gymnastics. Romania, the nation that gave to the world Nadia Comanechi, has produced many champions and notable figures in artistic gymnastics over the years.
“As a historic centre for culture and sports, Cluj-Napoca is the perfect location for this event,” said FIG President Morinari Watanabe. She added, “Gymnastics is part of the Romanian culture, and I am convinced it will be a beautiful World Championship for girls.”
The championship begins July 7 with hoop and ball individual qualifying and the first half of ensemble all-around, followed by bat and tape individual qualifying and the second ensemble combination.
The ensemble duel and team titles will be awarded at the end of the competition on July 8. The device finals for the individual and ensemble will close the World Cup for Girls on July 9.
The championship theme is “The Beginning of the Magic,” aptly describing the event as a starting point for the next generation of international stars born between 2008 and 2010.
