Dryanovo, Bulgaria: Hundreds of people gathered on May 13, 2023, in the historic Dryanovo Monastery “St. Archangel Michael” to pay tribute to the rebels of the Pop Hariton and Bacho Kiro’s troop. For nine days, the squad managed to hold about 8,000 regular Ottoman troops and Bashibozuk in 1876.

For the 70th time, the commemorative hike “On the Road of the Troop of Pop Hariton and Bacho Kiro” was held. More than 200 people took part, with this year, after a prolonged interruption, the pedestrian crossing began again from the village of Vetrinci.

The walkers were greeted in the monastery personally by the Mayor of Dryanovo Municipality, Trifon Panchev, who welcomed them and presented them with certificates.

The dramatic events of the April epic recreated members of the National Society “Tradition”. The actions of the restorers were accompanied by the exceptional voice of the announcer Milen Ivanov and a memorial service for the dead insurgents was held by Metropolitan Gregory Veliko Turnovo.

Emblematic Bulgarian folk songs were also performed by Stoyan Madzhdarov – bagpipe, singer Darina Mineva and the Children’s bagpipe band “Rhodope Breath”.

The Vasil Levski National Military University performed the ceremonial inspection – Veliko Tarnovo, with the participation of 125 cadets and the University Spirit Orchestra. Colonel Georgi Krainov, Deputy Chief of the Vasil Levski NVU, accepted the structure of the representative companies. The organizer of the celebrations is Dryanovo Municipality.
