Sofia, Bulgaria: Yordanka Fandakova, mayor of Sofia, stated that starting today, May 12, the first five small electric buses will leave, which will provide access to the neighbourhoods “Monastery Meadows – East”, “Monastery Meads – West” and “Pavlovo” with main stops of public transport.
She noted that Citizens of Sofia will have the opportunity to “request” travel from and to a stop convenient for them through a specially developed mobile application BusInn. The service will be available with all travel documents of public transport.
Additionally, she appreciated the citizens of the Monastery Meadows Initiative Committee, who actively participated in specifying the route.
The European Commission’s Innovative Public Transport project is being implemented in several European cities. It aims to promote the use of public transport by including traditional services and the option of vehicle “on demand”.
She posted numerous pictures of buses on her official Facebook account. The people of Sofia shared their views on the newly launched buses. A Sofian resident commented that buses are luxurious but small and narrow, and child or student size and practice are inappropriate for adults and the ever-growing flow of people in Sofia.
Buses with large capacity are highly essential in a busy city like Sofia. The Municipality of Sofia has to put more buses in service to fulfil the capital’s transportation needs.
The people of Sofia also thanked Mayor Fandakova for launching these electric buses and made another request about the fountains in Sofia. A Sofian resident commented that it is already mid-May, and Sofia has no working fountains. In the last few weeks, he has been to many places downtown, and the fountains still need to be fixed.
He urged Mayor Fandakova to pay attention to the fountain problem as it is also a significant concern and a big drawback for Sofia’s tourism.
