Tatyana Georgieva, Municipal councillor from the PG GERB/SDS in the Metropolitan Municipality, reported that on Good Thursday, she discussed with grandmothers from the pension club that talked about traditions and customs.

The main objective of this meeting is to make people aware of how important it is to pass culture and traditions to future generations, teaching them hard work, humility, and love and respect for their neighbours.

Yesterday, she practised the tradition of painting Easter eggs with the Chairman of the Metropolitan Municipal Council, Georgi Valentinov Georgiev, fellow municipal councillor Kadrelena Atanasova, director of Pazari North – Svetoslav Todorov and colleagues from the administration of the district “Novi Iskar”.

As shown in the pictures, Georgieva helped the children paint the easter eggs and celebrate the occasion with traditional methods. Today, April 14, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church observes Good Friday.

In Bulgaria, Christians comprise 64.7% of the population, while 62.7% are Orthodox, 1.1% are Protestant, and 0.6% are Roman Catholic. While many churches in the West use the Gregorian calendar to mark important dates, Orthodox churches continue to use the Julian calendar. They observe Good Friday and Easter significantly later than Western churches.

That’s why Bulgarian Orthodox is celebrating Good Friday on April 14. Through his social media account, Georgi Valentinov Georgiev, Chairman of the Metropolitan Municipal Council, wished Bulgarian citizens a Happy Good Friday.

He wrote, “It’s Good Friday – the saddest day for Christians! The son of God was tortured and sacrificed for the sins of all humanity”.

Georgiev also informed that when Jesus Christ predicted his future fate on Good Tuesday, he attended the liturgy served by His Holiness Bishop Polycarp of Belogradchik.

Georgiev was also present with Tatyana Georgieva, Municipal Councillor, during celebrating Good Thursday and helping children to paint Easter eggs.

Tatyana emphasised that caring for older people is one of the top priorities. This is why she is focused on developing a network of retirement clubs in the area so seniors can gather, socialise and have fun.

Despite the difficulties, she recently finished the battle to reopen the retirement club in Ovcha Kupel. Tatyana stated that she managed to handle the situation with the support of the municipal council.

Recently, the Novi Iskar Pensioner’s Club is also a distribution point of the Lyulin Municipal Children’s Kitchen, which provides another convenience for parents in the area by providing quality child feeding service at a cheaper fee.

The Municipal Councillor stated that she enjoyed speaking to many elderly ladies using this service and was genuinely pleased to see the work progress she made along with their companies.
