After receiving complaints of telephone fraud in the province, the Veliko Tarnovo Police Department issued a warning to the public. The offender called someone using the phone’s contacts after stealing a mobile phone from the victim’s car.
On Saturday, the victim received a call from a friend telling him that a scammer had contacted her over messenger and demanded money because his car had broken down. She immediately gave her BGN 250 after becoming convinced. Later, he ordered 150 BGN more, and she gave it, determining him as his friend.
The victim, whose phone was taken and utilized in an effort at fraud, reported the incident to the police, saying that his phone had been taken from his car parked outside the house. He was a 42-year-old local resident. By tracking the stolen phone, the police succeeded in capturing the suspect. Police believe there may be more suspects involved in the altercation; further investigation is now being conducted.
The victim explained that the suspects repeatedly called his friends in an effort to defraud them using the same trick. One of his friends fell victim to fraud and lost over 400 BGN. The bogus calls caused a lot of disruption for his other buddies. He encouraged the police to act quickly to stop the fraudsters.
The authorities warned the residents to be cautious because the province is seeing an increase in fraudulent call scams in light of the tragedy. Inform the police immediately if anything is suspected. Take good care of your communication tools, such as your laptop and mobile phones, as these are the main targets of criminals looking to cause a scandal.
The police department also urged individuals never to trust someone unknown to avoid scams. Cyber cells and other crime branches are investigating the incidents and trying to capture the suspects involved in such activities.
