Unknown attackers launched attacks against multiple websites of government agencies, airports, media outlets, and telecommunications companies in Bulgaria in the early hours of October 15, 2022. According to GDBOP, the attacked sites were briefly unavailable or had trouble loading at the time of the occurrence.
Several hacking assaults were made today against the Presidency and various government websites. According to a report, Russian hackers going by the name “We are killnet” claimed to have hacked websites affiliated with Bulgaria.
According to the General Directorate Fighting Organized Crime, there is no uncontrolled access to personal data following today’s attacks on several official websites. The Cybercrime Department of GDBOP conducts an investigation and implements coordinated actions to counteract hacker assaults of the “Denial of Service”/DDoS variety. The attacks in question only make it more difficult to access the Internet sites, not their content. No one has unauthorised access to your personal information.
The attack was carried out by Russian hacker gangs, most of whom were based in the Russian city of Magnitogorsk, according to prosecutor general Ivan Geshev. He also mentioned the possibility of classified material leaking. Attackers attempted to break the security of Bulgarian administration sites that contained extremely sensitive information.
For the national security of Bulgaria, the situation is quite serious. Tensions between the government and the inhabitants of Bulgaria have increased due to the attack. He added that the cyber security cell is looking into the conflict to see who is behind it and their true motives for launching the attack.
According to DGCOC, the hacker attacks did not affect the content of the websites but made them difficult to access. It’s a relief to hear that there was no unauthorised access to any personal data during the security of these national websites was breached. The main reason behind the attack is still unknown.
