The illegal crossing of migrants from the Bulgarian-Turkish border has once again raised many questions for Bulgarian border security departments. Yesterday, several immigrants crossed the fence using a typical ladder without fear. Footage of them also got viral on social media. Border assault can also be seen in the video. The fence consumed tens of millions of leva. However, it’s still unclear how much money was spent under the rule of the GERB administration and the alleged VMRO patriots.
The sources claim that this is an uncommon event. Everything was planned out, and someone else provided the ladders. Someone from the inside was involved in helping the migrants cross the border illegally. The evidence suggests that it was a corruption case. Each man had a schedule, and they were all well-organized. Currently, there is no information about the particular organization.
Evgeni Uzunov, the chairman of Burgas court, shared his views on this incident. He said, “The situation along the border is terrible, and I ask the other two authorities to have a dialogue right away about the political nature of the issue. Several illegal migrant activities have been recorded since the beginning of the year. Some of them also caused disturbance to the peace and security of the nation. Decisions must be taken regarding when to criminalize a particular behaviour and who should be held accountable must be decided”.
Uzunov emphasizes, “More than 1,150 migrants have crossed the borders, and 77 among them are traffickers. Some migrants also carry narcotic substances. District Court in Burgas has reached judgments in 28 cases. At first look, the figure appears to be significant. Still, it is shockingly tiny compared to the daily flow of migrant issues in nearby district courts like Tsarevo and Malko Tarnovo. The government reached several agreements.
