Following the flood, the infrastructure in the municipality of Karlovo faced the most damage. Ivan Shishkov, the acting regional minister, promised assistance from the government at a briefing in the Council of Ministers.
Ivan Demerdzhiev, Acting Interior Minister, claims that they have arranged mineral water and food for the distressed population, which will be delivered today. He announced, “there will be a meeting of the Commission on Disasters and Accidents on September 12 at 2:00 pm.
According to regional minister Shishkov, the “Water and Sanitation” company is working on the ground to restore the water supplies as they wait for the electricity to be turned on. The water supply needs to be fixed first”. Shishkov mentioned that seven bridges had been destroyed during the recent floods in Karlovo.
There are now five settlements in Karlovo Municipality without access to water and three villages with intermittent electricity. One village will receive water service by the end of the day, while the other villages will have temporary water pipes. These temporary water lines will be functional for ten to fifteen days.
The cost of flood damage in the three Karlovo regions that were severely damaged is about 60 million (BGN). Emil Kabaivanov, the municipality’s mayor, highlighted that there is no way to repair all the damage in a few days, so the number is probably not final.
He added, “More than 340 homes were damaged. 60 of them are uninhabitable, and six of them are entirely demolished. At the moment, the occupants of these properties live with friends and family.
Angel Stoev, the regional governor of Plovdiv, explained, ” Anyone who expresses a desire will be provided with a habitable home. Containers would be provided for people to live.
The local population and media are invited to inspect local logging in forests on September 8 and 9, along with the Minister of Agriculture and all departments. Gechev noted that they want to bring back the affected villages under the rural development program. He added that all the wood collected in the settlements is just for those who live there.
