Bulgaria parliament approves proposal to rise pension amount

Currently, the maximum pension amount being given to Bulgarians is €1,000, which was increased by around 33.3% during the last year. This amount can reach the sum amount of €1,700 from October 1, 2022.

Sofia, Bulgaria: Following the political turmoil in the country, a sigh of relief came for the citizens of the Balkan state as the administration announced to hike the pensions by 10%. 

The idea was proposed by the outgoing Kiril Petov’s administration, which now has been adopted by the Parliament. From the month of July, the minimum amount of pension for Bulgarians will be €235, which during the previous year was increased by 26%.

Currently, the maximum pension amount being given to Bulgarians is €1,000, which was increased by around 33.3% during the last year. This amount can reach the sum amount of €1,700 from October 1, 2022. 

Moreover, the other terms and conditions or the specific categories have not been mentioned. The citizens of the country have expressed their happiness over the decision. 

One of the residents cited, “It is indeed a very good step taken by the government, and Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has delivered what he promised. We are very glad”.  

Apart from this, the deputy chairman of the transport commission, Zafir Zarkov, announced that fine of BGN 3 would be imposed on the passengers boarding the public vehicle, especially buses travelling without any card or ticket. 

Zarkov stated, “The goal is to ensure the passenger in the event of an accident, but also it helps with the analytical data on the congestion of the lines”. 

The changes are likely to be in effect from March 1, 2023. Further citing his argument, Zarkov stated, Across Europe, the ticket bought from the driver is the most expensive”, adding, “The card for at least ten trips for BGN 12 is also reduced, as you will now be capable of charging the e-card with as many trips as you want”. 

The outgoing Prime Minister Petkov, along with his Cabinet members, submitted his resignation on June 27.
