The Minister of Foreign Affairs - Teodora Genchovska, is also among the Bulgarian government officials who are on a visit to Rome.

Sofia, Bulgaria: Prime Minister Kiril Petkov is on his visit to Rome, Itay, along with the delegation of Bulgaria. While arriving in Rome Sunday, May 22, 2022, the Bulgarian Prime Minister laid a wreath on the bust of the Bulgarian bandit and revolutionary Captain Petko Voivoda.  

Providing information about his first day of the visit, PM Petkov tweeted, “With the Bulgarian delegation in Rome. Today, on my arrival, I laid a wreath at the bust of the Bulgarian bandit and revolutionary Captain Petko Voivoda. Tomorrow the delegation will be received in an audience by the head of the Roman Catholic Church”.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs – Teodora Genchovska, is also among the Bulgarian government officials who are on a visit to Rome.

The primary purpose of this visit by Bulgarian dignitaries is to partake in the celebration of May 24 – the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and Slavic literature. 

The Foreign Minister tweeted, “Just arrived in Italy to take part in the celebration of May 24 – the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril. Together with the delegation, we paid tribute to the monument of Capt.Petko Voyvoda in Rome”.

Both countries established diplomatic relations in the year 1879. The embassy of Bulgaria is situated in Rome and has a general consulate in Milan and six honorary consulates (in Ancona, Florence, Genoa, Naples, Turin and Treviso). 

Meanwhile, the Embassy of Italy is established in Rome and an honorary consulate in Plovdiv. 

Italy and Bulgaria are members of both NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) and the European Union. Both nations were also members of the Axis Powers during World War II, allies of Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire.
