Sofia, Bulgaria: National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (NCIPD) of Bulgaria provided information, citing, additional 344 COVID-19 patients have contracted Omicron variant of the viral disease. These cases were reported from the 355 samples taken from the COVID patients, NCIPD officials further adds.
The remaining COVID-19 patients contain the other strains of the COVID-19 viral illness, such as – Delta. The authorities collected these samples from twenty (20) districts of a total of twenty-eight (28), in between the time frame from February 1 to February 23, 2022.
Out of all the Omicron patients, a total of 271 are undergoing treatment at their respective homes. On the other end, thirty-three had recovered from the deadliest viral mutant, while three lost their lives, during the time period between February 21-March 1, 2022, according to the data shared by the NCIPD officials.
NCIPD further states among the remaining eleven patients with Delta strain and its sub-variants, two are undergoing medical care at their respective homes, whereas one individual scummed to the variant in between the period of February 21-March 1, 2022.
BA.1 and BA.1.1 subvariants of the COVID-19 virus are the dominant strains found in at least 122 cases of the mutant, as per the data revealed by NCIPD.
The highest number of the COVID-19 mutant (including Omicron as well as Delta) has been reported in Plovdiv (77), followed by Bourgas (59), followed by Sofia city (49) and then the districts Stara Zagora (43).
NCIPD authorities further informed that the patients with the COVID-19’s Omicron strain account for around 96.9% (among the latest samples taken and processed). Previously, this percentage computed for around 98.2% in the last week.
To date, around 29.6% of the Bulgarian population has received their recommended number of the COVID-19 vaccines and hence are fully vaccinated against the contagious viral disease.
On the other hand, nearly 10.1% of the total targeted eligible population of Bulgaria are fully immunised, also by taking their third dose (booster shot) of the COVID-19 vaccine.
