Sofia, Bulgaria: Russia, on Thursday, February 24, started military operations to invade Ukraine, which has been condemned by numerous countries. Prime Minister of Bulgaria Kiril Petkov has condemned the aggression of the Russian government against Ukraine. 

He tweeted, “We strongly condemn Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.” 

“The use of military force against a sovereign state is unacceptable in the 21st century.” 

Bulgaria will speak with one voice with all partners in the EU and NATO; our unity is our strength“, the Bulgarian prime minister further added. 

Soon after, the Russian Prime Minister announced the conduction of military operations in the Donbas region of Ukraine, an emergency meeting of the top-state, government military and intelligence officials. This meet was held by Bulgarian President Roumen Radev. 

Discussions were also held on the means to evacuate the citizens of Bulgaria who are at present in Ukraine. The Foreign Ministry added that the evacuation could take place by means of the land border only as the air space of Ukraine was closed. 

On the other hand, the Foreign Minister of the European nation – Teodora Genchovska, cancelled his plans of paying a visit to Kyiv amid the portrayal of Russia’s aggression on Ukraine. 

She tweeted, “This act undermines Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence and is a serious violation of international law“.  

The United States of America and the United Kingdom are among the countries that have shown their support to Ukraine, condemning the act of Russian President Vladimir Putin. 

Britain imposed sanctions on numerous major Russian banks following the country’s foray into Ukraine. Experts say that the world will be facing multiple consequences of this act of the Russian government.
